Internet and virtual reality

First of all, Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon are investing massively in augmented reality and virtual reality. The same, are investing massively in AI and voice assistants. In addition, smartphones coming off the assembly line are all or almost all graphically capable of running 3D applications. 3D is one of the most talked about topics in the IT press. However, we are still far from the promised everyday experience. This invites us to reflect on the future perceptions between the Internet and Virtual Reality.

Indicators of the potential of the combination of Internet and Virtual Reality

With a few quiet indicators that lead us to believe that the use of AR/VR applications will reach the market faster, Retail VR is holding out hope. Mozilla Firefox has just announced the launch of Firefox Reality. This web browser aims to compete with native browsers. Oculus (VR Carmel) or Google (Chrome) with its virtual reality headset Daydream. Moreover, the forecasts are confirmed. Mozilla, which has always positioned itself as an alternative to Safari and Google, is launching its turn. Moreover, an indicator confirms the arrival of virtual reality, it is the importance of investments that are devoted to it.

last but not least, Digi-Capital recently mapped investment activity, with over $3.6 billion raised in 2017. A large proportion of these investments focus on headsets or glasses and the gaming industry. But that's not all. Unity, a key and established player in the industry, is raising $400 million alone. Similarly, Improbable (a decision-making tool for recreating immersive virtual worlds) is raising $500 million. This is one of the biggest fund-raising campaigns ever carried out in Europe. The revolution is affecting all sectors, from medicine to music. At Retail VR, we're convinced that this revolution has begun. Want to know more about virtual reality?
