Virtual reality: a definition?
First of all, virtual reality (VR) proposes to project the user in an artificially recreated universe in which he can interact. In fact, there are several ways to enter virtual worlds.
How to discover virtual reality?
The discovery of this technology is not limited by the acquisition of a VR headset. Indeed, here are different cases of use of these objects:
Immersive rooms
The immersive rooms called CAVE, are made of rear projection screens or stereoscopic projection. These cellars are equipped with screens, which partially or totally cover the room. To do this, the perspective is calculated in real time thanks to a position sensor, usually integrated in a joystick.
Stereoscopic displays
The user is equipped with stereoscopic glasses, in order to hide his natural vision. In fact, the computer displays, in a synchronous way, the image on the screen.
Virtual reality headsets
The VR helmets allow, thanks to a gyroscope system, to interpret the orientation of the user's head and to calculate the scene according to its positioning. Moreover, there are several types of helmets:
Headsets for smartphones
- Samsung Gear VR,
- and many others.
Headsets for PC or console
Autonomous headsets
How to use these virtual reality headsets?
The use of virtual reality headsets is growing rapidly in different sectors, such as architecture, science or retail. The main reasons for this development come from the improved performance, the appearance of many business applications and the cost that has dropped significantly.
Did you know that?
The first virtual reality headset was developed by Daniel Vickers at the University of Utah in the 1970s. A decade later, the first interactive tool appeared, the Data Glove, which enabled users to communicate with the computer using finger and hand movements.Want to find out more?
